AWARD SPOTLIGHT:

Prometheus

THE OPPORTUNITY

One of our clients, headquartered in Rockefeller Center, wanted to create a commemorative award for team members celebrating ten years of employment with the company. Whitestone partnered with this client to create a custom-designed Years of Service commemorative keepsake–an unparalleled recognition gift to bestow their gratitude and appreciation.

THE PROJECT

We looked at the company's elements and discovered that many of the employees who would be receiving this gift likely commuted to Rockefeller Center every day, passing one of the most widely recognized sculptures in the world, located in the heart of New York City: the Prometheus Statue at Rockefeller Center.

Second only to the Statue of Liberty, this 18-foot, eight-ton gilded cast bronze statue is perhaps the most celebrated piece of artwork in America. Recognized as the wise protector and benefactor of man, Prometheus perfectly embodies classical myths and forward movement. A picturesque nod to innovation and prestige. Prometheus, whose name means “forethought,” seemed the perfect symbol on which to base a decade award gift that would be both physically stunning and hold sentimental significance.

With this in mind, our team proposed recreating the iconic Prometheus Sculpture into a miniature desk piece. Something that could sit on a bookshelf, be used as a paperweight at the office, or be a personal keepsake in the home.

Our design team then turned ideas into action, translating sentiment into a tangible, memorable gift.

THE CONSTRUCTION

The award was carefully crafted and molded out of ceramic. It was originally five pieces of ceramic that were cast and assembled. We tested the award with two different gold finishes, and the result was a timeless, one-of-a-kind replica of the Prometheus Statue.
